Lovely walks around the grounds, definitely recommended

We received a very warm welcome from Marty when we arrived at short notice during our "Sawdays Road Trip" from Somerset to Italy. Chateau de Vaulx is a fabulous building that has undergone some serious renovations in recent years. Being a building geek I was fascinated by Marty's account of the works and history of his home. We enjoyed and a delicious breakfast - top service, definitely recommended.

The best place I have ever stayed

Wow. What a bed and breakfast. Marty is the perfect host, making us feel at home, and arranging a light lunch for our 10 year old son as soon as we arrived. We booked in for two sittings of dinner, so that our son could eat early and we could put him to bed and have a grown up dinner in the dining room with our fellow guests. The whole chateau is decorated by interior design expert Marty,

and looks it. Our room was in keeping with the age of the building, interestingly furnished, yet oh so comfy. The modern bathroom appealed after 10 days on a canal boat! The bed linens are divine. My only regret is that we booked in for just a single night stay. The surrounding area is beautiful and I would have loved to have stayed longer at this beautiful place and be spoiled. The breakfast is delicious and plentiful; croissants, yoghurt, ham, cheeses, juice, tea, coffee. The dinner was fine-dining standard. The best place I have ever stayed.

Truly a Special Place

We have been fortunate enough to travel fairly extensively and have stayed at some very unique proprieties. Chateau de Vaulx will always have a special place in our memories. It is a blend of elegance, history and warmth seldom found. The day we arrived, there was a concert in the garden (a brass quintent). The organizers were dressed in white with straw hats that had wide green ribbons.

Although we arrived in the midst of this event, the owner, Martin, found time to welcome us and serve us fresh drinks after our drive. The concert was delightful. Our room was a suite with 2 bedrooms and a recently renovated bathroom with a nice shower. There was a balcony with magnificent views of the valley and villages below. The bed linens were top quality. Toiletries are not provided, so we stocked up at nearby store. Breakfast was included in the price, and a nice table with cheese, yogurt, ham, croissants and jams was laid out. The region is amazing, full of quaint villages and stone farmhouses. There are many excellent restaurants in the region. The region, while full of attractions, is not crowded or touristy, which is very nice. The highlight of the Chateau is Martin´s warmth and expertise. He is very attentive and nothing seems to be a bother for him. It is incredible to see the work he has put into the Chateau, all fabrics, paint and furniture selected with great care. I hope one day we can go back again.
