Like being in your own chateau this beautiful place offers both luxury and cosiness. The food is homemade in the beautiful kitchen by Marty. The living room and dining room are everything you would wish for in a Chateau, but without being stiff. We stayed in the room Mello, which was beautiful and very good value for money. The food is like food should be, simple, tasty and delicious :-) The three small dogs sleeping in the kitchen are adorable.

Our second stay at this stunning chateau - we simply had to come back and arranged our camping trip to France this year to be able to do just that! We stayed again for one night on our way home from our holiday further south in France and - was it as good as we remembered? No, it was even better!

A chateau with such style and ambience created by its wonderful host Marty and his team.

On arrival, we were immediately made to feel welcome and were able to relax in the grounds with a glass of wine to take in the stunning views from all around. The addition of a swimming pool available to guests this year is just more than fantastic and we enjoyed a swim before going off for an evening meal locally, (booked for us by Marty). We stayed in the suite Choiseul which was perfect for us - two adults and our 14 year old daughter. The room has a very large en suite bathroom and separate sleeping areas (one double bed in one area and twin beds in the other area - (so able to sleep 4 very comfortably).

We took breakfast in the large dining room around the table and had everything we could have possibly wanted.

Sadly we had to leave - but not before we were able to look at the latest Chateau de Vaulx development - the Gîte Damas, again superb elegance and such space! Definitely now looking for a time we can come back for a stay here too.

A recommander ? Sans aucun doute !

We have been fortunate enough to travel fairly extensively and have stayed at some very unique proprieties. Chateau de Vaulx will always have a special place in our memories. It is a blend of elegance, history and warmth seldom found. The day we arrived, there was a concert in the garden (a brass quintent). The organizers were dressed in white with straw hats that had wide green ribbons.

Although we arrived in the midst of this event, the owner, Martin, found time to welcome us and serve us fresh drinks after our drive. The concert was delightful. Our room was a suite with 2 bedrooms and a recently renovated bathroom with a nice shower. There was a balcony with magnificent views of the valley and villages below. The bed linens were top quality. Toiletries are not provided, so we stocked up at nearby store. Breakfast was included in the price, and a nice table with cheese, yogurt, ham, croissants and jams was laid out. The region is amazing, full of quaint villages and stone farmhouses. There are many excellent restaurants in the region. The region, while full of attractions, is not crowded or touristy, which is very nice. The highlight of the Chateau is Martin´s warmth and expertise. He is very attentive and nothing seems to be a bother for him. It is incredible to see the work he has put into the Chateau, all fabrics, paint and furniture selected with great care. I hope one day we can go back again.

I've discovered Vaulx at the very beginning of his opening, I was going to meet a special person there. I've been in love with this person since, I've been in love with this place since. It is, still today, the only place I relax and enjoy every single moment I spent there. Marty and Thierry are the best guests, and friends, someone could ask for. Totally addicted. Peter de A., 05/08/2013

"Another magical visit. We arrived in pouring rain, but what better consolation than to be welcomed by our warm-hearted host, Marty, and invited to cosy up by an enormous roaring fire before being served a candle-lit dinner in the gorgeous drawing room? Next day the sun came out and we were able to marvel at the wildflower meadows cascading down from the avenue of limes

overlooking the rolling charolais landscape. Our fellow-guests that evening were a delightful young couple who became engaged on the terrace, and I can think of no more perfect little piece of heaven in which to receive a proposal! Thanks Rosie. What an amazing find! We were thrilled by our visit and long to return.

Just before we arrived we had a slight accident involving a local motorist and - our French not being quite up to the occasion - we asked her to accompany us to the chateau to get help in translation. Marty was quite wonderful, smoothing ruffled feathers and charming everyone with so much warmth, kindness and impish humour that we all relaxed, and instead of it spoiling our holiday we felt so looked after that we look back on our visit as a highlight of our trip. Everything about Marty and the chateau is expansive and spectacularly memorable, and the love and flair with which he and Thierry have restored, decorated and furnished their home is heart-warming, as is the generosity with which they share it. The far-reaching views from their hill-top avenue are glorious: it would be very tempting to return and see their wonderful garden and grounds in all the different seasons. Add to that a charming landscape dotted with mellow old villages and Romanesque churches, grazed by charolais cattle and alive with birdsong: what more could you ask for?"

This is a must stay venue if you are looking to stay in this region. We booked an overnight stopover at Chateau de Vaulx this past Saturday night on our way to Samoens, and were so pleased that we stayed with Marty & Team. The location and venue are stunning and enchanting. We all enjoyed the chance to unwind in the swimming pool and Marty recommended and booked for us

great restaurant nearby to eat that night. The family room we stayed in for the night was spacious and perfectly suited for 2 adults and 2 children, with en suite facilities. The chateau has been sympathetically restored over the years, and the attention to detail is very impressive. It feels like a real "home from home". If you are looking for a stay in this area, forget the rest and book the best here. We will definitely return and stay longer next time, and will recommend this venue to all our friends and family. Many thanks Marty!!

There is nothing to beat staying in a real chateau. For a couple of days you feel like a prince, or a duke, or a marquis. The ambiance is just great and the views from the chateau are breath-taking. The rooms are large and have all modern facilities. The area is beautiful, with excellent views, it does not matter in which direction you go. Cluny and the château de Drée are very near and are well worth a

visit. Allow yourself to be spoilt in this authentic part of France.

My princess loved our short stay. Marty is a very gracious host. We were lucky to have our room upgraded so we could enjoy the fantastic view. Fear not, the magnificent views are also enjoyable from the terrace where we had breakfast, even though the cosy dining room was very tempting. Highly recommended.

How to feel right at home in a beautiful chateau! Marty of Chateau Vaulx makes it all so simple. You are immediately part of the family and welcomed with open arms into the most magnificent abode that somehow retains a feeling of home. Elegantly furnished with an understated charm that you know must have come at an enormous effort but flows seamlessly throughout the house with

taste and warmth. Oil paintings in every nook and cranny that in reality have no connection but all have been welcomed into the family and seem right at home. Baby grand piano just begging for a song, fabulous gardens awaiting your camera lens to capture the grandest shot at every turn, three generations of friendly canine welcoming you to their home and the family. And the food! Marty has a real talent in the kitchen outside of his gregarious welcoming character. Seemingly effortless arrays of food come sashaying into the dining room on the arms of Marty and his staff, all created with love and creativity, all shared with a changing roster of equally contented visitors willing to share experience and local finds with other overlapping guests. There are also tasty choices locally that Marty is happy to direct you to. You'll be very happy in your individually decorated rooms or suites and will always feel you have been given the best room in the house! The views are outstanding from every window. There are lovely chateaux in the area to visit even if you are somewhat outside the Loire Chateux tour, a great stopover in beautiful countryside, well worth the stop and surprisingly restful. Thanks for the memories Marty.

We stayed as a stop over on the way back from Fréjus, South of France. Marty is a fantastic host, the children ate before us and went off up to bed leaving us to have a feast of restaurant standard food with the other guests and plenty of wine. Our room was great, full of character, clean and really comfortable. The chateau is wonderful with grounds to peruse at your leisure and impressive

views across the valley. Marty could not do enough to make us feel welcome and during our short stay nothing was too much trouble (our three children are quite demanding) - well worth the money, if we get the chance we will definitely be back.

We stayed just one brief night in the Chateau de Vaulx, as a stop over on the drive back up from the South of France. We had booked a meal, but were heavily delayed on the roads - we rang Marty, the owner, to tell him, thinking that we would have to cancel dinner; but he was very reassuring and kind, told us not to worry, and that we would have dinner whenever we arrived. In the end,we arrived exhausted, with nerves frayed, at half past 9 at night, after 10 hours of hell on the road...and the reception we received was the PERFECT antidote to our appalling day.

Ah !

We received a very warm welcome from Marty when we arrived at short notice during our "Sawdays Road Trip" from Somerset to Italy. Chateau de Vaulx is a fabulous building that has undergone some serious renovations in recent years. Being a building geek I was fascinated by Marty's account of the works and history of his home. We enjoyed and a delicious breakfast - top service, definitely recommended.

We spent three sumptuous nights at Chateau de Vaulx. We were warmly met by host Marty who is greatly blessed with the gift of hospitality. No request was too difficult - breakfast was arranged on the terrace with warm breads, cheeses, and confitures and a stunning view - Marty booked lunch for us at a nearby Michelin-starred restaurant. The room was tastefully and romantically furnished and the grounds are a delight. We enjoyed a faultless visit.

During our summer holiday we stayed four days on the chateaux. This is the perfect example of how an upper-class chambers d’hôte should work. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good diner good breakfast, romantic and clean rooms. The only disadvantage: not only the guest but also the mosquitoes like Chateau Vault a lot. We will definitely come back.

We stayed at the Chateau de Vaulx in July for two nights on our way to the alps, this lovely rustic chateau is set on top of the beautiful hills of the charollais region, attractions you can visit are Cluny cathedral, vineyards in Macon, and the burgundy region. We stayed in the suite Geoffray, which has in my opinion the best view of the hills and villages around. Marty is a superb cook and a

great host, drinks were offered to us on our arrival as a welcome. The breakfast served to us was excellent. This place is perfect to relax and read a book after the hustle and bustle of Paris... Would recommend to anyone!!! Only comment would be fun to have a pool available.

We had two wonderful nights at this beautiful hilltop Chateau. This fabulous building has been restored with a great deal of love and attention to detail. It is stylish, welcoming and full of history. Our room was stunning, the sitting room with roaring fire was a peaceful haven and the views are magnificent. We were very well looked after by our host Vince who made us feel totally at home

We loved the Chateau de Vaulx. Located in the Charolais-Brionnais region of France, this wonderfully funky chateau is a perfect place for a romantic getaway. Still in the process of being restored, the available rooms are very large and clean with wonderfully updated bath facilities. We stayed in "La chambre Duchêne" which was very nice. Marty, the host and co-owner, is delightful and so willing to

explain the history of the Chateau and the restoration process. The scenery from the grounds was breathtaking, even on a rainy spring day. We would also recommend table d'hôtes -- Marty is an excellent cook -- with dinner served in the dining room with other guests. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing our meal with a delightful Dutch family. Breakfast is also served in the dining room and was very good.

Wow. What a bed and breakfast. Marty is the perfect host, making us feel at home, and arranging a light lunch for our 10 year old son as soon as we arrived. We booked in for two sittings of dinner, so that our son could eat early and we could put him to bed and have a grown up dinner in the dining room with our fellow guests. The whole chateau is decorated by interior design expert Marty,

and looks it. Our room was in keeping with the age of the building, interestingly furnished, yet oh so comfy. The modern bathroom appealed after 10 days on a canal boat! The bed linens are divine. My only regret is that we booked in for just a single night stay. The surrounding area is beautiful and I would have loved to have stayed longer at this beautiful place and be spoiled. The breakfast is delicious and plentiful; croissants, yoghurt, ham, cheeses, juice, tea, coffee. The dinner was fine-dining standard. The best place I have ever stayed.
